Cleveland Browns Hire Defensive Coordinator

The Cleveland Browns have found their defensive coordinator, hiring Dick Jauron, former head Coach of the Bills and Bears.

This hiring should come as no surprise considering Jauron was the defensive back coach for the Green Bay Packers, during Mike Holmgrens first three years as Green Bays' head coach.

Jaurons' defensive style differs from former Browns defensive coordinator Rob Ryan (who favored the 3-4 defense)--quoting the Cleveland Plain Dealer:

In virtually all his NFL stops, Jauron coached the 4-3 defensive alignment. Besides needing additional players on the defensive line, the Browns face the challenge of implementing new systems on offense and defense during a time that owners may close down operations until a new collective bargaining agreement is reached with the players union.

Announcing the hiring of Jauron, Browns head coach Pat Shurmur added:

Dick is someone I have known for many years, who is an outstanding football coach and very well-respected around the league. He has a tremendous knowledge of the game and is an excellent teacher.

"His experience in the NFL as a player, position coach, coordinator and head coach will be a huge asset to our staff."
