Browns concede that Colt McCoy has a high ankle sprain

The rash of high ankle sprains continues in Cleveland. (It’s better than staph infections.)

Colt McCoy is the latest quarterback to injure the joint, and the “high” variety typically takes longer to heal. Previously, Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace have absorbed ankle injuries, opening the door for McCoy to claim the starting job.

“It’s different than the ones [Delhomme and Wallace] had, but it’s in that same category, yeah,” coach Eric Mangini said Wednesday, according to Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Mangini said he’s leaning toward giving Delhomme the start on Sunday, since he knows the opponent — the Panthers — better than Wallace.

Delhomme injured his ankle in Week One, and he hasn’t started a game since then. He played against the Falcons after Wallace suffered his ankle sprain, before Delhomme re-injured his ankle.
