Rookie defensive back Joe Haden recently sat down for a round of Ten Questions.
Ten Questions with Browns rookie defensive back
1- Tell us why you use Twitter to interact with fans.
“I use Twitter to interact with my fans because I feel like it gives us a connection off-the-field. I just want to let them know what’s going on in my life sometimes.”
2- Did you have a ‘Welcome to the NFL’ type of moment that really made you step back and realize what you were a part of?
“When I first got drafted, I got to the airport when I first got here. When I got off the plane, everybody in the airport just started barking at me and was like, ‘Thanks Joe, we are so happy that you’re a Brown.’ That was a step-back moment when I realized I finally made it to the NFL.”
3- Of all of your tattoos, which says the most about you and why?
“The one on my left shoulder says ‘You have been entrusted with much.’ My parents were always telling me the God entrusted me with a lot of abilities and it means that He looks for you to do more things. I just feel like that’s my most important tattoo.”
4- Tell us about the PSA you shot for Prince George County.
“It is important to me because I wanted to make sure everybody got their flu shots. I just want to keep everybody healthy and keep everybody on top of their game. I don’t want anyone getting sick and I wanted to make sure they knew to stay aware.”
5- You were a state champion in football and basketball in high school. Which of the two sports is your true passion and why did you choose to pursue football?
“My true passion is football. I like basketball a whole lot, but I realized I wasn’t going to make it to the NBA. I was too short. I had to go ahead and put my mind on football because my chances weren’t as good.”
6- What are you currently listening to on your I-pod?
“Right now it’s either Drake, Lil’ Wayne or Nicki Minaj. Her and Eminem together on the CD on song number two (Roman’s Revenge) is one of the best songs out.”
7- You have four brothers whose names all begin with the letter J. Which of you (Josh, Jordan, Jacob and Jonathon) is the best athlete? Who is the smartest? The Funniest? Why?
“Jonathon is the best athlete. He’s the youngest of all of us and in the ninth grade. He can bench press 225 probably five times and he runs a 4.4 high 40. He’s only in the ninth grade and he’s just a ridiculous athlete. The funniest would be Jacob, Jordan and Jonathon. I don’t know how, but whenever I’m around all of them, I just can’t stop laughing, my family can’t stop laughing. They’re just hilarious and they don’t even try to be funny, and that’s what makes them so funny. The smartest I would probably say is me (laughs).”
8- What do you miss most about college and what has been the most difficult thing about the transition to life in the NFL?
“The things I miss most about college are basically just the relationships I had with all my friends there. After we all left practice, we went home to the dorm rooms and everybody was all together. It was more like they were your brothers because everybody was the same age and nobody really had anything else to do but hang out. That’s what I miss the most. The transition honestly isn’t really difficult, the transition to the NFL, besides the football of course. The social life is ridiculous because you have so many fans and you get so much support. Basically, the only things that are difficult are just on the football field.”
9- Tell us how you want to get involved in the Special Olympics.
“I’m definitely trying to get a whole lot more involved this off-season. One of my younger brothers, Jacob, is in the Special Olympics. I want to sponsor kids, just look out for them. I want to do the sponsoring thing and whatever they need; I just want to look out for them.”
10- What is the one thing that you would like Browns fans to know about you that they might not already know?
“That I’m definitely really into my religion. I love the Lord and I feel like He has blessed me with these abilities. Besides that, I love playing football and I’m just trying to work my hardest and give (the fans) all I’ve got.”
