The Browns: Draft a quarterback or "Arm" Colt McCoy?

Cleveland Browns quarterback Colt McCoy needs weapons, as would any quarterback lucky enough to be drafted by the Browns. Numerous highly regarded Draft Gurus, although rarely correct in their speculation, are screaming for Cleveland to draft a quarterback, preferably Ryan Tannehill to add instant improvement to last seasons non-effective and at times humorously dysfunctional Browns offense.

Listening to these "analysts" and their reasons for replacing McCoy along with who their desired choice would be, and of course the needs for their choice to be successful is almost laughable. Yes, they say the major problem with the Browns offense is the lack of an effective and talented quarterback at the helm--but wait, there's more! These are the same writers that were touting McCoy as a "breathe of fresh air" when he was thrown into the mix in 2010.

All we heard was praise as the young quarterback had respectable outings against some of the NFLs' finest--McCoy and the Browns would destroy the New England Patriots, a team that would lose only two games that season. And what Browns fan was not clinging to the edge of their seats as McCoy and the Browns marched down-field against the New York Jets in the final minutes--sending that game into overtime! All those screaming for replacing McCoy just need to be honest for a moment--although his stats were not that impressive in 2010 and he was thrown in a tad early due to injuries, were you not sitting there like many of us thinking--"hey, we may have something here!"

The Cleveland fan base would be less energized in 2011 as they watched a Browns offense struggling to score, out of sync and plagued with numerous problems. Protection problems along with dropped passes, overthrowing and under-throwing receivers and yes, questionable play-calling at times would be common. Therefore, given all these problems many have come to one conclusion--replace the quarterback.

Sports writers and analysts are quick to push Ryan Tannehill as an important need for the Browns. It is interesting reading these articles because they stress the importance of surrounding Tannehill or whoever the Browns choose with weapons or they will not be successful. Yes, the new quarterback of the Browns must have "elite" receivers and of course that dynamic running-back to aid their new quarterback. One must wonder if these writers actually read what their typing!

Yes, in the same breathe that they push the need for a new quarterback they also state the need to upgrade the receiving corp and of course the running-back position. Yep--the new QB MUST have weapons--one must wonder why this logic does not also apply to Colt McCoy!

Colt McCoy has shown glimpses of promise and he has done so without the benefit of an elite receiver and a dependable (no drama) running-back. If the "flavor of the week" QB can be drafted and improve the Browns offense, provided the Browns also acquire him the necessary weapons to be successful--I have one question! Why does this not apply to McCoy? If the present day receivers and running-backs are not "good enough" for Clevelands next possible franchise QB--why are they good enough to judge McCoys ability?

Hey, I gotta real "off the wall" thought--how bout instead of replacing him we get Colt those much needed weapons the Draft gurus speak of, and then give a true evaluation! I know--what a radical thought!
