Browns Fans: Why Be Negative?

The Cleveland Browns recently wrapped things up with the 2012 NFL Draft. And if your a die hard Browns fan you should feel a lot better heading into the 2012 season than in the past. The Browns had their mind made up on who they wanted with the #4 overall pick and they did everything possible to make sure they got there guy.

Plenty of rumors leading up to the draft had several teams wanting to leap frog the Browns to snag the powerful RB out of Alabama and the Browns made sure that didn't happen. For once the Browns were aggressive in the draft and got the guy who many people think is a franchise changing player. I believe he is no question going to be the guy getting the majority of the carries for at least the next 5 to 8 years. Great hands, great blocking ability, and an incredibly smart football player. Its not every year a running-back comes out with as much fire power or potential as Trent Richardson. I truly believe he is excited about being here and is going to embrace this "college atmosphere" type fan base as coach Saban put it.

Drafting Brandon Weeden at #22 initially made me very upset. I thought for sure he was going to be available at 37 so there was no need for it. The more time that set in I became more excited about it. Being 28 years old I believe is going to be an advantage. He is very mature obviously, and knows all there is to know about being a professional athlete. (5 years in the minor leagues). I'm not a huge Colt McCoy fan nor am I a Colt McCoy hater. I believe having no running game, a banged up offensive line, and the most drops in the NFL surely didn't help Colts season last year, but I'm okay with the urgency of Holmgren to win games now.

Cleveland fans including myself don't want a 2 or 3 year building process nor do we deserve one. Being the laughing stock of the NFL for the past decade makes for the case of not wanting to wait. Not addressing a WR earlier then settling for 5'10-175 lb Travis Benjamin  made plenty of Cleveland fans including myself a little upset. I mean whats a QB if his receivers don't catch the ball?. It seems as though were setting up Weeden for failure. But who knows, maybe Jordan Norwood can continue to improve along with Greg Little who many fans were very pleased with last season.

Since 1999 the Browns have had two respectable seasons in making the play-offs in 2002 and the 10-6 2007 season. Those two seasons being 5 years apart means that maybe the Browns are due for another winning season in 2012. Nobody can predict something of that nature especially when it comes to the Browns. But hey Cleveland, there's no point in being negative anymore.

Can we honestly be mad if the Browns are sub par again in 2012? No. I mean come on we can handle failure better than any other franchise in sports right? Would we even know how to handle ourselves if we began to win consistently? I would sure like to find out. For all the positive and realistic Cleveland Browns fans out there. There's always next year haha. Go Browns!
